ONYX

Onyx is a mineral of parallel layers alignment – white and black alternately. Also, it can be found in green and white colour. The natural onyx is a very rare rock. Seen all over the world, arises in gas pitches in volcanic rocks.

Originally, it has been used as a feedstock for making luxurious or esthetic products. Nowadays, it is a material for producing wall tiles, partitions or furniture insets.

Onyx is characterized by an extreme durability and toughness; its structure of coherence makes it possible to be treated in machining processes. As it lets the light in and out, what gives a fantastic visual effect, it is used for making illuminated elements.

Interior designers and architects make use of onyx while making bathroom and living room countertops. One must remember, that onyx should not be used in the kitchen countertops, because its reaction to acids and scratches is not right – as a result its look becomes unappealing. Also, it's not a good material for floors – it becomes muted very easily. For decorative elements, onyx is a great solution.
